About the Author:
"Eli Solomon has spent a lifetime, punctuated only by a spell as an equity salesman in an investment bank, in the company of good and bad cars. His interests are varied and his latest venture is into the world of rare Southeast Asian books. He now spends equal time between Hong Kong and Singapore. His racing interests include wringing the neck out of his single-seater Brabham BT18 at historic motorsports events when he can afford to, and rebuilding old race cars, including one that was entered in the Singapore Grand Prix of 1971 and 1972. He has also written a bibliography on Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles for the National Library of Singapore and a Chronology of the life of Colonel William Farquhar, first Resident of Singapore. Eli is presently Editor and Vice President of the the Malaysia and Singapore Vintage Car Register."

About Snakes & Devils:
"The Singapore Grand Prix ran from 1961 – 1973. The first event was called the Orient Year Grand Prix and held on a stretch of Upper Thomson Road that encompassed the Sembawang Hills Circus and a section of Old Upper Thomson Road. The Singapore Grand Prix was by no means a single-seater procession and included the Saloon & Tourer and Sports & GT car support races along with the very popular races for Motorcycles. The book chronicles the 13 golden years of Grand Prix racing in Singapore with an appendix of lap records and race winners for all the classes of racing.

Snakes & Devils traces the turbulent history of the Singapore Grand Prix and tells the story in a highly pictorial chronological format that is both entertaining and engaging. Through extensive research and copious interviews with drivers, sponsors and organisers across three continents, author Eli Solomon has produced the authoritative guide to the original Singapore Grand Prix. Included in this volume are rare archival and private photographs, many of which have never been published before.

Includes forewords by three times World Formula 1 Champion, Sir Jack Brabham O.B.E, O.A., and the last Singaporean to win the coveted Singapore Grand Prix, Rodney Seow."

News Flash - Effort to consolidate parts shipment from UK to Singapore

Due to the mounting costs involved in running our cars on the roads today, we've decided to have a promotion to help owners of classic cars  purchase parts at the same price that we are charged... ie wholesale prices- cost-to-cost (packing, handling, freight and GST charges are additional). Our hope is that by consolidating large enough orders of parts, we can further encourage classic car owners to keep their cars in good running order at more affordable prices .

Air delivery charges/ courier etc of  parts can be very costly, although sometimes can't be helped because of the low volume. However, by planning ahead and consolidating, we can get better discounts from suppliers and split freight charges. Quotes will be given on parts required and can be verified based on the invoice by  the UK supplier (so far Moss, Rimmer Bros and Mini Spares). Large items such as fibreglass panels, replacement steel panels, glass or heavy items such as gearboxes, engine components, drive-train components etc can also be more easily delivered at a fraction of the costs of air-freight.

There are no deadlines for placing orders (multiple shipments according to demand) and to clarify, those who join this effort are free to use their preferred garage (or stock up for a 'rainy day') .

Anyone interested to join in this effort pls email : dworksgarage@hotmail.com

As from 1 Jan 2007, after much deliberation, a 10% service fee will be charged on orders. All orders taken and fully paid up before 1 Jan 2007 will not be affected.

***Do note that we are getting resistance and objections from certain groups of people because of this promotion. Also, every effort is made to ensure that these parts are for "personal use" and not for resale at a profit by any individual or company. An agreement will have to be signed. We thank you for your orders. Cheers, Brian***

Malaysia/ Singapore Snowball Friendship Drive
Friday 28th April - Monday 1st May 2006

The Snowball Friendship Drive will progressively collect vintage and classic cars along its route from Penang to Singapore.  Starting from Penang at 7 a.m. on Friday 28th April, approximately 8 classic cars will head southwards. It is hoped that at least 50 cars will parade in Singapore for a concours on Sunday 30th April.

Note that this is a "Pay-as-you-go" event where participants will be individually responsible for booking and paying for their hotel accomodation and for all their expenses. There will be no "freebies", "goody bags", caps, T-shirts, petrol allowances, etc. Once you've joined the drive, you commit yourself to take part in the complete event including the Singapore programme.

This event is open to members of the MSVCR and those of invited heritage motoring clubs. It will be necessary to register your car and occupants so that numbers are known and hence arrangements can be made for catering, traffic control, Singapore entry/exit and various other events organised in association with the Drive.

Quotes to ponder...:)

Anyway

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish motives; be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; give the world the best you have anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; it never was between you and them anyway.

- Mother Teresa

A quote that I read recently on a friend's website which I gather most of us can relate to:

"The time at our disposal each day is elastic; the passions we feel dilate it, those that inspire us shrink it, and habit fills it." Marcel Proust- Remembrance of Things Past
